Erase all Kittens

Hi everyone!

Lately, I have finished an amazingly fun game called ‘Erase all kittens.’ It’s all about teaching you how to build your own website through an interactive game.

So, basically, the kittens are taking over the website and Arca (you’re character) is trying to save the day! She goes on adventures to find the kittens (which you collect throughout your journey). Arca has to use her ‘coding skills’ to solve occurring problems.

In this entry, you will find tips and tricks about where to find the kittens and how to play the game. Click on this link to sign up. There are 8 levels (but level 9 is coming soon). I 100% recommend this game as you can uncover so much about coding, learn valuable information and have fun at the same time!

This is level one
You receive coins by collecting them. Once you have them, when Arca gets into a problem, you can pay for hints. That box you can see, is a kitten. The next picture shows where you find it.
When you click on the kitten button next to your coins, it shoes you all the kittens you can get.
That yellow cauldron you can see is a coding challenge you need to complete before you can continue. This happens all throughout the game so it’s good if you can remember what you did to solve the problems!

I’m now going to show you all the places you can get kittens:

These and way more kittens are to be found! Keep checking for more posts!

Bye!

P.S. Have a great half term!

Easter Egg Hunt (one week and a day late!)

Hi everyone! I know I haven’t written a post in ages but I’ve been busy. I hope everyone’s Easter holidays have been great. Every Easter, me, my brother, my mum and my dad do Easter egg hunts.

My one was to do with spring and the things you see during Easter like chicks, lambs, flowers, bees, butterfly’s and of course rabbits!

Today, I would love to share my Egg Hunt with you online.

These are the animals you have to spot for the Easter eggs.
The animal you go to first has a nest just like this. Take the eggs and read the clue. The clue will tell you which animal you need to find next. This goes on until you get to the end of the loop! Good luck…
Number one, the bee. Answer the clue and find the origami animal that it relates to. If you can’t see it clearly then this is what it says: ‘I am symmetrical and pretty.I fly but I’m not a bird. I am not a moth. I drink nectar. What am I?’
The Chick. The clue is: ‘I have long ears and a small body. I hop to my hutch and feast on my carrots. To me these are like your Easter eggs. What am I?’
The butterfly. The clue says: ‘I am black and yellow. I fly but I’m not a bird. I am an insect and I make honey.
The lamb. The clue says: ‘Quack Quack. I am a sign of Easter. I come out of an egg. My mother is a chicken. What am I?
The bunny. (Or rabbit) The clue says: ‘Butterfly’s drink from me. I am in people’s gardens. I am not an animal. I have petals. What am I?’
The flower. The clue says: ‘Baaa! I am woolly and cute. I am not a jumper. I eat grass and my mother is a sheep. What am I?’

I hope you enjoyed that! I just wanted to share a little Easter magic. If you like it and want to do something similar next year, click here for a link to an amazing origami website! I started learning origami in the holidays and I thought about using that in my Easter Egg Hunt. I used alpro yogurt pots for the nests and my parents bought mini eggs to place inside.

Happy Easter everyone! (Sorry for sending this post one week and a day late!)

Bye!

Vector Images!

Hi everyone!

Over the past two lessons on C.S we have been creating our own images using vector graphics. Last week we went through all the cool features and made something together. A face. This week I have made a picture of a two bunnies in the moonlight. Here it is:

Next I made the starry sky:

This is it. The key thing to do as you go along is to group the shapes. Otherwise you won’t be able to move it without pieces falling off.

Then I grouped it all.

Here is the full image!

Finally, I went into scratch (here is the link) and pixilated it. The way to do that is going to costumes and drawing a rectangle around it. Then drag it down so it’s smaller. Then draw another box around it before making it bigger again. Click out of the box and now it’s pixilated.

This is the pixilated version. Do you like it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope you all have an amazing week. Bye! ๐Ÿ™‚

Pi

Who knows what Pi is?

Pi is not pie. Not apple pie, not rhubarb pie, not orange pie. Pi is a decimal number that goes on forever.

Tomorrow is pi day. Some of you might be trying to memorize the digits. Last year I did 12 digits. This year I’ll try 20.

I find it easiest to learn it with a song. 3.14159 265 358 979 323 846 264 338. Try to learn them in little groups.

Here is a video that makes learning the first 20 digits of pi easy. I recommend it to you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP99ufQacIM

He looks at the numbers as pictures. That is clever because it sticks in your mind so you don’t forget it.

3. Is first. Then 14. 14, the man says, is like 14 pounds of gold on top of your head. 1 is like a drumstick and 5 is like a drum set. This goes on for 12 minutes and by the end you can remember it.

This link shows you a song to memorize 100 digits of pi in a song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HRkKznJoZA

Have fun on pi day everyone!!! Bye.

TOP PLACES TO VISIT IN YORK!

Hi everyone!

I loved it in York. If your planning to go to York, here are the top things to visit.

  1. Jorvik Viking Center. The Viking Center made it seem like your actually there! They recreated the smell of the Vikings and the imagery is so cool. You can’t miss this amazing opportunity to learn more about the Vikings. You an also get a viking coin. And there is a gift shop; A rune set, Viking books, Wooden swords, ect.

2. Shambles. Your trip to York wouldn’t be complete without a trip to shambles. Shambles is a great mix of different shops, potion shops, jewelry shops, food shops, sweet shops. Souvenirs galore! It looks like a scene straight out of Harry Potter.

3. York’s chocolate experience. An amazing shop, filled with chocolates. Did you know, York created the Yorkie Bar? It’s a real treat going there. Boxes of CHOCOLATES, everywhere. I just couldn’t help staring at all the gooey chocolates, my mouth watering. I wanted all of them!!! So many to choose from…

4. The TEA ROOMS! One of the most popular tea rooms is “Betty’s Tea Room.” We couldn’t go because the lines were HUGE but because they were, it means it was popular. We went to the tea room called, “Impossible wonder bar and tea room.” Everything was delicious! I had scones, garlic bread, cream, jam and some cakes. All the restaurants were top quality especially the Indian shop we went to.

York is embedded with history. All around, there are city walls towering above. You can walk round, take a tour bus! We went on one and took a trip to the York dungeons…

If you can’t go abroad go local! Take a trip to York or any place in England. You’ll be surprised… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thank you! Bye.

Jorvik

Hi!

I’m at York, the place of the Vikings and the Saxons. It’s amazing, there’s so much history. We went to the Viking museum this afternoon and I learnt a lot!

Do you have the courage to face the gory battles?

Read on to find out…

When King Edward the Confessor died, he didn’t have a son and he hadn’t chosen the next King. This caused a war over the English crown. The three contenders were: Harald Hardrada, William of Normandy and Harold Godwinson. Who do you think will get the crown? I wanted it to be William as he had experience and seemed like he would protect England. But oh how wrong I was…

The three contenders made reasons about why they should be King. Harold was heavily supported by lots of the nobles (the lords and important seniors). He also was the leader of Edwards army! In fact he was the most powerful noble in England. He wanted more power.

Harald Hardrada claimed his family was the rightful owner of the crown and that he was a decedent of the heir before Edward.

William was an ambitious person. He wanted more power and to build up an empire. He jumped at the chance for the crown.

What do you think?

Let’s see if your right!

The answer is: HAROLD GODWINSON. He scored extra points as he was a Saxon. The English wanted one of their kind to rule. Not a Frenchman nor a Viking. A Saxon.

Harold was crowned all at once, a quick ceremony. But when he took the crown a comet flashed across the sky like a bad omen. The English were quite alarmed and plopped the crown on Harold’s head, not wanting to regret it.

Little did Harold know, he was going to have company…

Harald and William were furious when they found out. William had planned to bring his men across and he was closer. But, lucky for Harold, the winds were raging and William couldn’t get through. So Harald Hardrada’s men came from the North and were ready for a battle.

“HOW?!” Harold screamed when his men told him the great Viking warrior was in the North East coast of England ready to battle. You see, Godwinson was expecting an attack from William, not Harald. It was a shock, but he assembled his men and got ready to fight the ruthless vikings.

About 360 ships arrived with Hardrada. Harold Godwinson was especially shaken when his brother Tostig fought with his enemy! This was going to be a hard battle.

And it was. 1066, 25th September: THE BATTLE OF STAMFORD BRIDGE…

There was an agreement that Harald Hardrada should get Hostages (prisoners) at Stamford bridge. In fact, Hardrada was so confident and sure that everything would go to plan, he left a third of his men and armory (swords, shields, ect) at base camp.

When Godwinson arrived, not with Hostages but with weaponry and an army. The vikings had to leap up and defend with only themselves.

What do you think so far? Because here comes the gory bits…

Hardrada had sent for a few of his quick riders and told them to get the rest of the troop and armory. With quick thinking, he had a giant Viking Besurka guard the bridge so the Saxons couldn’t get across. He killed many soldiers.

Then when the armory arrived with more men, the battle was in motion. They all fought, blood everywhere, the Besurka still fighting the Saxons. Until-

A Saxon went underneath the bridge in a barrel and stabbed the Besurka in the back. After that the Saxons had the advantage. And they won. Many, many, many vikings were killed that day. They promised not to invade again and be at peace with the Saxon King.

That was the end of the viking age. Only 24 ships came back that day…

Who came next? William of NORMANDY and his NORMANS. This was the battle of Hastings.

Williams army had less men but very skilled men. Harold had more men but not as skilled. You see, Harold had fyrd’s, men that weren’t as well armed some better than others. They were farmers only part-time soldiers. Some holding pitchforks as weapons. Harold had some amazing fighters called Housecarls. These men wore full armour, and real weapons. But these were the best he had. And not as many as Fyrd and Peasants.

William on the other hand had cavalry, foot soldiers and archers. William’s army was also rested and fit for the battle. Harold had just faced Harald and walked for miles up to where William was. But was that going to stop Godwinson? NO!

The battle was on top of Senlac hill, William at the bottom and Harold at the top. His army made a shield wall so the archers couldn’t fire their arrows. The cavalry were on horses. The horses couldn’t gallop up the hill easily and when they did, they couldn’t get passed the shield wall.

Rumors spread throughout the Norman army that their leader had been killed! But William, leapt up and lifted his helmet showing he was alive and there was hope. “I am alive! We can still win!” He might have said. Like I said, William was an ambitious man. He wouldn’t quit.

William had a plan. The feigned retreat, it was called. Where his army fell back pretending to retreat. And that’s when Harold’s army fell apart. The fyrd and the peasants ran back, following Williams army, chasing them away. Just like that, the shield wall was broken. The archers fired their arrows, the cavalry charged and the foot soldiers fought. Groups of fyrd and peasants ran from the army surrounding them. The Housecarls fought bravely, but they were no match for William’s army.

There is some uncertainty about how Harold Godwinson died, but he did. Maybe it was by an arrow in the eye or a dagger in the stomach. Some people think one, some another, some both. We don’t know for sure, but in the Bayeux Tapestry where Harold’s name is written, an arrow spikes his eye.

Shot through the eye and who's to blame? | History Today
Here is what supposedly happened to Harold. But which one is he? The one with the arrow through the eye or the one being killed with a dagger. What do you think? I think both.

This is not the end. There is more. If you found this interesting, click on the link for what happened next.

William hasn’t conquered England yet. The nobles don’t want him to be King. I mean, “A Frenchman?! NO!”

The next stage is called the Harrying of the North. Click here for that.

Book Corner!

Hi everyone! I have just finished two books: Percy Jackson and the titan curse and Not MY Fault. They are both amazing. I am really sad about what happened to Zoรซ Nightshade though, and Bianca. It ended in a cliffhanger that Nico de Angelo might be related to Hades…

If you have read it, then you will know who I’m talking about. There is something about the way Rick Riordan writes that makes me want to know more. Another book like that is: It’s not MY fault.

The two main characters are Maya and Rose. An accident involving a merry-go-round tears the two sisters apart. Maya goes wild and Rose is stuck surrounded by gym practice. It’s a truly gripping book. A reality adventure book.

Also, the order for the Percy Jackson Books is as follows: PERCY JACKSON AND THE LIGHTING THIEF, PERCY JACKSON AND THE SEA OF MONSTERS, PERCY JACKSON AND THE TITANS CURSE, PERCY JACKSON AND THE BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH and PERCY JACKSON AND THE LAST OLYMPIAN. There is also PERCY JACKSON AND THE GREEK GODS, and PERCY JACKSON AND THE GREEK HEROES. But that’s only the first series! Then it’s THE HEROES OF OLYMPUS series.

TRIALS OF APOLLO is next. After that THE KANE CHRONICLES series. Last but not least is the MAGNUS CHASE series.

I hope that helps!

How safe?

Good morning!

Yesterday was safety internet day. There are some really important things you should know. For starters, what you do that day, is what you should do every day. Online safety is important and in this post you will become experts. I recommend this video for younger children.

Here are some things to try to keep safe:

One, try not to share personal info. It might end in chaos. Two, instead of showing real pictures create an avatar. Be kind when on the internet, always think “Would I like other people doing this to me?” If something seems wrong, believe it. Trust your instincts. Try to tell a trusted adult when you can (Parents, guardians, ect)

But this is hard to remember. Trust me, I know. Try SMART.

Staying safe online โ€“ DSPL7
Using this makes the internet more fun and more safe.

Remember, check twice, “Is it reliable?”
